FAQ.

1. Will the eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

If correctly and properly applied, eyelash extensions are safe and do not ruin the health of the natural lashes. Alexandra uses high quality products along with quality application. She believes in maintaining the health of each guest’s natural eyelashes. Each eyelash is closely observed and properly matched with a safe length and thickness to achieve the look discussed during the consultation. The health of the natural lashes is the top priority.

**Other lash stylists may not take the same precautionary measures, so please be mindful, proper application is very important. **

Dangerous and improper techniques may include:

  • Applying the eyelash extension to the eyelid instead of the lash can cause irritation or even serious injury.

  • Applying several lash extensions to one natural lash may cause lashes to fall out prematurely due to excessive weight.

  • Applying strips of false lashes to clients' eyelids with permanent adhesive.

2. How do I choose the style/look I want?

A high quality variety of types, curl, length and thickness are available to achieve different styles. Alexandra will consult with you before each appointment to understand the desired style. Alexandra currently offers premium silk and mink eyelash extensions ranging from .8mm-.15mm in length.

3. What is the difference between silk and mink?

Silk lashes are mid-weight, soft and flexible. They are long lasting and can be made to look very natural or glamourous. Silk lashes are more dense/ thick and matte than mink lashes. Mink lash extensions are more fine, glossy and lighter than silk lash extensions. They put less pressure on the natural lash and come at a higher cost.

4. Is the application process uncomfortable? How is the application of eyelash extensions performed?

When professionally applied by a quality lash stylist, eyelash application process is pain-free. Alexandra communicates with guests throughout the process to ensure comfort. First, lint free anti-wrinkle eye pads are carefully placed (under the eye) over the lower lashes. The eye pads isolate the upper lashes for proper eyelash extension application and also provides a relaxing anti-wrinkle treatment. Then primer is applied with a lint free applicator to prolong the longevity of the eyelash extensions. Using professional pointed tweezers, a single eyelash extension is brushed with a dab of specially formulated adhesive. With a second pair of tweezers, the natural lashes are separated to isolate a single eyelash. As the eyelash extension is applied to the natural lash, it is held for a couple seconds while the glue bonds and sets. The process is repeated one eyelash at a time, attaching an average of 60-120 lashes per eye, until they are all done.

5. How long will it take to apply eyelash extensions?

The eyelash extension application process normally takes about 90-120 minutes for a full set of lashes while it may take 60-90 minutes for a fill (depending on the length of time between fills).

6. How long will a full set of Eyelash Extensions last?

When eyelash extensions are professionally applied, they will typically last through a full growth cycle of your natural eyelashes. A natural growth cycle is around 30 to 45 days. The lash extension will shed with the natural lash naturally. With proper care the eyelash extensions will last even longer.

7. Why do I need a refill every 2 to 4 weeks?

The natural eyelashes replenish day to day. Each hair has a specific growth cycle and will grow to a specific length. There are three stages of growth that eventually leads to natural hair shedding. Anagen is the growth phase where the lashes are actively growing. Catagen is another growth phase known as the transition phase. If an eyelash falls our or is plucked out during this phase, it will not grow back right away because the follicle needs to complete the phase. Telogon is the resting phase which can last up to one hundred days before the lash falls out and a new one begins to grow. Because each eyelash is in it’s own phase of the growing cycles, it is normal to lose two or three eyelashes each day. Guests might notice the shedding when they are extended because they look more dramatic compared to the natural eyelashes. Understanding that our bodies are constantly regenerating and growing is important when some lashes start shedding. There will be plenty of new lashes that will be ready for a refill.

8. How do I take care of my extensions?

Eyelash extensions are easily maintained. Don't rub your eyes too hard when you clean them. Avoid any oil based cleansers, lotion or make-up remover. Gel cleanser is recommended. Use a small Q-tip to carefully clean the eyeliner around the eye.

9. Can I use eyelash curler?

It is not recommended because it will weaken the adhesive that holds the extensions and potentially pull out the natural lashes prematurely.

10. Can I use mascara?

One of the many benefits of eyelash extensions is that they actually give the illusion of wearing mascara without having to apply any mascara. Mascara on the eyelash extensions defeats the purpose of having the natural look because they tend to clump together.  If any mascara must be applied, only use water-based mascara on the tips of your eyelashes. Waterproof or oil based mascara is definitely NOT recommended because they will loosen the adhesive and shorten the life of the eyelash extensions. In addition, when cleansing the water-based mascara off, only used a water based eye make-up remover.

11. Are eyelash extensions FDA approved?

The FDA is not currently regulating eyelash extensions because they are applied to the natural eyelash hairs. The eyelash extensions and adhesive never comes in contact with skin.

12. Can I swim, shower, Or exercise while wearing eyelash extensions?

The adhesive Alexandra uses to apply the eyelash extensions is safe and specially formulated. The bonding agent is waterproof which allows activities such as swimming, showering etc.

13. How soon can I wash my face after the extensions are applied?

Alexandra recommends waiting 24-48 hours after the eyelash application to wash the eye area.

14. Do I have to refill my lashes?

A refill is not required. Guests may choose to just have them done once. The eyelash extensions will simply shed with the natural lashes without becoming splotchy or sparse. Of course, if you like your new eye lash extensions, it is recommended to come back for refills within 30 days!

15. How are the eyelash extensions removed?

The eyelash extensions will shed naturally with the natural eyelashes within 30-45 days.  Do not be tempted to tug and pull as it will prematurely pluck your eyelashes. Please do not attempt to remove them yourself. If guests choose to prematurely remove the set of eyelashes, Alexandra can professionally remove them with a specially formulated remover for a small fee. Professional removal may take 15-30 minutes.

16. Can I still get eyelash extensions if I wear contacts?

Eyelash extensions are a safe and non-invasive cosmetic procedure. Alexandra uses a high-quality adhesive which is specifically formulated for cosmetic use near the eye. The adhesive does not actually ever touch your skin therefore they do not conflict or interfere with contacts.

17. Is it possible to have an allergic reaction?

Allergic reactions are extremely rare but there is a possibility that it can happen. In this rare occurrence, Alexandra will immediately remove the extensions which will relieve any symptoms. Again, allergic reactions are very rare due to Alexandra’s quality application and products. Contact Alexandra with any questions or concerns.
